    Farm info

We are delighted to have our first coffee from Mexico in the Mistral Roastery! A beautifully balanced coffee with notes of Blueberries, Hazelnuts and Dark Chocolate.

Located in the picturesque region of Zongolica, Veracruz, Finca El Estribo is a testament to the enduring legacy and dedication of the Altamirano family. The farm, managed by Samuel Altamirano Juarez, has been in the family since 1850, spanning seven generations. Specialising in specialty coffee since 2012, Finca El Estribo has garnered significant recognition for its quality.

The farm operates at an elevation range of 1350 to 1500 metres above sea level, cultivating Typica, Bourbon and Costa Rica coffee varieties. The Altamirano family prides itself on producing high-quality coffee, exporting approximately 16 sacks of green coffee annually. The farm encompasses 10 hectares and yields around 150 sacks of parchment coffee per harvest.

With a permanent workforce of 7 employees, expanding to 15-20 during harvest season, Finca El Estribo ensures meticulous care in every aspect of coffee production. The coffee plants are grown under shade, using organic fertilisers and following a pruning cycle every two years. The cherries undergo a careful 12-hour resting period before being depulped and fermented for 20 hours, or until characteristic aromas are identified by skilled workers.

Post-processing, the coffee is stored in cool warehouses using GrainPro and henequen bags. After a 30-day resting period, the coffee is ready for market, ensuring optimal quality and freshness.

Finca El Estribo is not just about coffee; it embodies a commitment to its workers and community. The farm provides economic incentives to its workers, reflecting its dedication to social responsibility. Despite facing challenges such as labour shortages, drought, and extreme weather, the farm continues to thrive and adapt.

Looking to the future, Samuel Altamirano Juarez plans to invest further in the farm, including expanding unique coffee varieties and enhancing the overall benefits. Nestled in the forests of the Sierra de las Altas Montanas, Finca El Estribo remains a beacon of tradition, quality, and community spirit in the world of specialty coffee.
